Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC)
Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II (CCTP-II)
Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional (CATP)
EMDR Trained Counselor
Susan has over five years of experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and families, and has witnessed how trauma can uniquely impact individuals on multiple domains of functioning. It can be especially difficult for children and adolescents, not only in identifying and understanding their own or others’ emotions, but effectively communicating their struggles. When trauma goes unaddressed, it can manifest into anxiety, self-esteem issues, depression, attachment-related concerns, and oppositional and self-injurious behaviors. These intense emotional and behavioral responses can become overwhelming and confusing for the child, adolescent and their entire family. Susan has obtained training in evidence-based treatment modalities and trauma-informed care to more effectively target and reduce these distressing symptoms and increase resiliency.
Susan works closely with the client and family to develop a treatment plan that meets their needs, while also ensuring the incorporation of their strengths, values, and culture. She applies her knowledge of various treatment modalities, including Theraplay, EMDR, and CBT, to help address client-specific needs. Additionally, she has found the importance in the integration of neuropsychology, artistic and play-based approaches, and mindfulness into treatment. Susan utilizes an empathic and collaborative approach in therapy, and believes in providing a safe environment to promote client growth and exploration. Her goal is to help caregivers, children, and adolescents feel empowered to create positive, meaningful change for themselves and their family.
